After nearly a decade of classical piano study, Zachary Fleitz temporarily rejected his musical upbringing after viewing the movie Sid and Nancy, which featured the bass playing punk rock icon, Sid Vicious. Zachary asked for a white bass guitar for Christmas, and his deep relationship with low frequency manipulation began. Playing in the school jazz band eventually led Zachary to enroll in Boston’s Berklee College of Music.

Immediately after leaving Berklee , Zachary began a career of performing and teaching music. After several years of near full time touring and performing with regional and national music acts, Zachary spent time helping to develop a music program at the Ex’pression Center for New Media in Oakland, CA. During this period, he connected with many similar minded musicians in both the studio and on stage that helped catapult his talent forward as an artist.

After returning to the central New York area, Zachary spent most of his time freelance bass playing with assorted acts, and occasionally played with theatre groups such as the Syracuse Stage. Around this point is when Zachary developed a musical relationship with mandolin player Jason Barady.

When not performing jam –grass music with Barady, Zachary developed a unique style of his own in coffee house venues with solo compositions on an open tuned electric bass guitar. The wide range of ethereal ADGAD bass playing is accompanied by the sampled sounds of Zachary’s prized invention, the MIDI Wing Chun Dummy. This device provides him the ability to become art by performing percussive martial arts movements that result in musical sounds.

After participating in several annual holiday jazz quintet performances with the talents of Barady and accomplished drummer Vinnie Amico, the progressive string group Floodwood was born. Also included in the Floodwood lineup are Nick Piccininni, and Al Schnier. After much brainstorming and a few efficient rehearsals, Floodwood debuted at the twelfth annual moe.down festival in Mohawk, NY. The new band was well received, and several shows in the northeast are soon to follow. Zachary will be securing the low end with his electric upright bass playing, and keeping everyone in the band on edge with his dangerously inappropriate sense of humor.

Nigel Felony is on the other side of the musical spectrum. Nigel performs as a solo artist, sampling his bass playing and the MIDI WIng Chun Dummy to create a live one man drum and bass experience. Breaking up these electro performances are ADGAD bass solo compositions.

Bands Zachary has been a member of: The Timmy’s, The Carnival, Hypnotic Clambake, Stone Lily, Pure, Woodenspoon, Amico-Barady Quintet, FLOODWOOD
